Everybody's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

Gooey, crispy, buttery goodness--these are everybody's favorite for a reason.
Total Time 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 1 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl; set aside.
  3. Melt butter and set aside.
  4. To a large mixing bowl, add brown sugar and granulated sugar; pour in the melted butter and mix until combined. Add the egg, egg yolks, and vanilla, and whisk until smooth.
  5. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, and stir until just combined. Mix chocolate chips into dough until evenly distributed.
  6. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop cookies using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, leaving at least an inch of space in between each cookie (they will spread during baking!).
  8. Bake for ten minutes. At the ten minute mark, remove the tray from the oven and drop it or smack it on the counter forcefully. Do not skip this! We want to flatten the cookies by getting rid of extra air, which results in a chewier, denser cookies.
  9. Return the cookies to the oven and bake for three more minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still underdone.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the pan for 5-10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Cookies are best served after about 45 minutes of cooling time.
